What's On The Weekly Tape

  • Other Tapes On Offer
  • Sample Tape

The weekly Swindon Talking Newspaper enables blind, visually impaired and listeners with other disabilities to keep in touch with the local community. For housebound listeners, the talking newspaper can provide a sense of belonging in the wider community with familiar and friendly voices in the home each week. Side 1 of the tape, which lasts for 45 minutes, contains articles from Swindon's daily newspaper The Swindon Evening Advertiser. The articles are taken from the issues of the previous week leading up to recording day. There are usually 4 newsreaders each week, providing a variety of voices for the listeners. Side 2 of the tape, (also 45 minutes) contains magazine style features covering a wide range of interests. For example, recent tapes have included a guide to the new railway museum STEAM in the company of the curator. There are also regular weekly features such as What's On, Sport, and Thought for the Week, and many others. Our volunteers provide these features.
